Honors Program Curriculum: The University Scholars

The Honors program follows an accelerated, inter-disciplinary curriculum that serves as an alternative to the regular General Education track at SPU. This challenging curriculum is for high-achieving students who have applied and been accepted to this special, interdisciplinary alternative to the regular General Education requirement. More information and an application.

As a University Scholar, you are required to complete 66 credits in the program, comprised of the courses listed below, a 5-credit “Ways of Knowing/Fundamental Science” course, and a 5-credit “Ways of Knowing/Quantitative Reasoning” course.

Note:  Credit received for international 13th year advanced standing or AP, Cambridge International, IB, or CLEP exams will not fulfill the WK Fundamental Science requirement.

Leaving the program

Infrequently students determine that the Honors program is not a good fit for their academic goals.

  • Students wishing to leave the program must meet with the program director for consultation.
  • Students leaving the program are required to meet all requirements in the SPU standard General Education curriculum.
  • University Scholars courses, with the exception of USCH 4950, 4960, and 4965, will fulfill requirements in the standard General Education curriculum.
  • Credit previously earned by successful completion of CLEP, AP, and IB exams will also be applied to the standard General Education curriculum as appropriate.
